Culture, language, geography, art, technology… There were a lot of factors involved in the formation of the earliest civilizations. This book is an informative (and interesting) introduction to the history of the near east. There is uncertainty among scholars regarding the origins of some things, like certain people groups. The author, describing his book, states in the preface that “It is A History, not The history”. His other books on the individual empires of the near east are next on my reading list.

Amazing book but no Quality control
Wanted it because of the many references online. Think i will enjoy it! But the paperback variant is not in new condition. Send in a envelop.

    Don’t spill tea on it!!!
I was in the middle of Zoom class and somehow some books randomly fell off my shelf onto my cup of English breakfast tea knocking it all over my books. I tried to mop it up as best as I could but then my Prof got mad at me because I had my video off so I tried to prop the book up over the heating vent to help it to dry better. But since the pages are shiny they kinda stuck together, and I kinda ripped them when I was separating them. I gave up so some of them are stuck together. Also the rest of the pages that didn’t get stuck got warped, and my brand new beautiful book doesn’t look so good anymore. But other than that the actual book itself is pretty good. It has lots of pictures and maps which are cool, although if you’re not into ancient mesopotamia and the Sumerians it can be a bit dull.
