About the Author
She is the author of the popular Alice-Miranda, Clementine Rose, Kensy and Max and Willa and Woof series, which have sold almost two million copies in Australia alone. In 2022, she released a picture book,
That Cat, illustrated by one of her former students, Kate Isobel Scott. Jacqueline’s books have received numerous shortlistings and awards while her picture book, The Sound of the Sea, was a CBCA Honour Book.Jacqueline speaks to thousands of young people at schools and festivals around the world, and says the characters in her books are often made up of the best bits of children she’s met over the years. While she is not a twin, like Kensy and Max she does have excellent powers of observation and has always thought she’d make a great spy.
Jacqueline lives between Sydney, Australia, and Queenstown, New Zealand, and is currently working on more Willa and Woof adventures, several picture book projects and an exciting new middle-grade story.
Clementine Rose is so excited! She’s going to start school with her best friends Sophie and Poppy and she can’t wait. But when she gets there, instead of the lovely Miss Critchley, her teacher is the much sterner and shoutier Mrs Bottomley. And then there’s Angus, a little boy who delights in tormenting her from the moment they first meet.
After her first day, Clementine decides school may not be so much fun after all. But the announcement of a Pet Day changes everything. If Lavender the teacup pig can come to school with Clementine, everything will be all right . . . won’t it?
A gorgeous new series from the bestselling author of the Alice-Miranda series.

This book is so funny. I wish that I was there with all the pets! I imagine Aunt Violet was not very happy about winning! I can’t believe she invited the queen to her birthday party!

Clementine Rose and the Pet Day Disaster
This is the second book featuring Clementine Rose, following on from “Clementine Rose and the Surprise Visitor.” Clementine Rose has a slightly unconventional life – having arrived at Penberthy House as a baby in a basket of dinner rolls, she lives with Lady Clarissa, grumpy Aunt Violet and Uncle Digby, the family butler; not forgetting her pet pig, Lavender.Clementine Rose is so excited about starting school that she has been virtually living in her new uniform. However, her first day does not go as planned… In what seems a rather strict and formal educational setting, Clementine Rose is forced to sit next to the unkind Angus Archibald. What is worse, he turns out to be her new teacher, Miss Bottomley’s, grandson. I have to say that my daughter got a little upset at this point in the book and, although she has not personally been bullied at school, she felt so distressed at what was happening that we had to put the book away for a few days and come back to it. Obviously, this was an extreme reaction and nothing terrible happens to Clementine Rose, but it is probably best not to read this book just before your child starts school for the first time or if he/she is sensitive about bullying.Miss Bottomley is extremely unfair to Clementine Rose and this results in her developing the dreaded tummy ache and not wanting to go back to class. However, eventually she tells someone what is worrying her and her mother can help address her concerns and she begins to enjoy herself. School improves even more when Clementine Rose learns that there is to be a pet day and Lavender can come to school with her. She really hopes that Lavender will win a prize, but will she?Although my daughter really enjoyed the first Clementine Rose book, she struggled with this one. I am glad we finished it together, so she saw that school improved for Clementine Rose and that everything worked out. Oddly, she was not upset by Roald Dahl’s “Matilda,” which also has a horrible teacher, but perhaps that was so extreme and bizarre that it was not something she could relate to. Angus, with his name calling and unkind behaviour, plus Miss Bottomley’s stern manner, seemed to be a little too realistic. I think she will read on in the series, as she adored the first book, but I don’t think she will come back to this one, for a while at least.

For what age?
It’s a good book but I reckon it’s for around 7 to 9 years old.

Amazing
This is a fun loving book that lets you see further in Clementines Life. You will start to wonder if Aunt Violet is so bad after all. 🙂
