About the Author
When Dav Pilkey was a kid, he was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. Dav was so disruptive in class that his teachers made him sit out in the hallway every day. Luckily, Dav loved to draw and make up stories. He spent his time in the hallway creating his own original comic books — the very first adventures of Dog Man and Captain Underpants.
In the second grade, Dav’s teacher ripped up his comics and told him he couldn’t spend the rest of his life making silly books.
Fortunately, Dav was not a very good listener.

My son is always happy to read cat kid books. He’s into catkid after finishing off dog man books. I read them too, we read them together as a bond and i personally love the humour, its entertaining even for an adult like me or can we say kid at heart? 😄

My twin 7 yo granddaughters love this series.
I’ve learned that just reading the words as written doesn’t does little to excite and engage my 2 little listeners. I use exaggerated different voices, exaggerated facial and hand gestures, and over the top exclamations to try and make the story fun. And this works. They laugh constantly and are engaged through out the story. Even after many repeat readings they still love it, reminding me when i skip a word or miss a page.

Great Content for Developing Reader
My Son hates reading but for some reason he does enjoy this series of books. He has the entire collection and requests the next chapter each time a new one is released. As an adult i wish there was a bit more “reading” in the books. They are setup somewhat like comic books – so yes he is reading but he gets through the books so quickly. I wish they would mix the comic pages with some more chapter style pages to create a book that is actually stepping stoning him into traditional books and giving him more content to read per book. That said – it does capture his attention and get him into a book – so I am not going to complain too much.
