“Right, so. I’m a complete beginner when it comes to Arabic. So after a little of Googling, it seemed that “Mastering Arabic” was the way to go. So on Day 1, I took it to work with me, and my friend (who is an Arabic speaker) says “Nobody speaks like that, that book is pretty much useless unless you want to sound like Shakespeare.” Back to Square One. So I trawl through the internet, and come across ‘Nassra Arabic Method’. Short, easy videos explaining 1 phrase per video. He talks about “not learning Fus-ha (Modern Standard Arabic to us normal folk) but learning what people ACTUALLY speak”

Would definitely recommend
I would definitely recommend this book for someone who is wanting to learn Levantine Arabic as the structure is very easy to follow. Unlike most courses which require you to memorise vocabulary and grammar. This occurs naturally through repetition in the book, expanding your vocabulary and understanding. I’m currently working my way through the book with Khaled and have noticed the volume learnt effortlessly without tedious hours of time required. You’re able to learn around your schedule. The book is filled with plenty of exercises, including oral, written and reading. As a whole the book is encouraging as you’re able to see your progression. The best part is grammar, which in theory should be very hard and complex, but the book has made this simple and comprehensible. Whilst a beginner will be able to use this book. I do recommend taking lessons with Khaled for a clearer understanding.

Some very helpful information in this well-thought out textbook
So far, I would say this is an invaluable resource for the learning of spoken Arabic. I like that the author starts with the actual Arabic script as the first order of business, because it eliminates having to learn a temporary phonetic system as an intermediate step in the whole process. Along the way, he provides a number of very helpful notes concerning the Arabic language learning process. Some of the earlier issues mentioned in other reviews like empty space on certain pages seem to have been addressed in this Third Edition, but there are still a few pesky English typos. We Arabic learners are so fortunate to have available to us this book, along with Tiedemann’s The 101 Most Used Verbs in Spoken Arabic: Jordan & Palestine!
