Description
This book is based on a story told by Mary Albert, of the Bardi people, to Aboriginal children living in Broome, Western Australia. The illustrations are adapted from their paintings of the story.
Mary Albert said, ‘Would you like to hear a story from long ago? My mother used to tell me lots of stories, but this story I loved the best, because I loved the birds.’

I used to read this book every night to my children, so when I was looking to purchase a gift for my nephew’s child it came to mind. It’s colourful and easy to understand and also an Australian story – what’s not to like !

Good book. Wish there was a hard copy or board book version to purchase other than paper back.

I like that all the birds got colours except the crow. The crow did not get any colours because he was far away from the dove. I like that all the birds got colours because the colour of the birds looked better than how they looked like when they only had black feathers. All of their colours because the dove was swollen, the other birds were near the dove, and a parrot poked the dove’s swollen foot. I would recommend this book because it looks cool when all of the colours come out of the dove’s foot. I think the rating of this book should be five stars.
