Great book for working with children with anger
This book is great for working with children’s anger and helping them understand what anger is and how to deal with it. A great book.

Helped my 7 year old daughter
My daughter is one of 5 kids… so frustration is a common theme in our home that sometimes bubbles over into full blown fights… these activities are not just helping her learn how to express her anger in a healthy way, but it’s helping our whole family turn fights into conversations.

Another excellent resource from Dr. Shapiro
Dr. Shapiro is synonymous with your favorite restaurant, it’s delicious everytime no matter what you order (sorry, I’m a foodie!). I love this book as it has worked for numerous children/adolescents that I treat being a Psychotherapist at a County Hospital in Psychiatry Outpatient Dept. These activities have made a significant impact towards reducing my patients level of anger, and many of these kids have been labeled and deemed by other professionals and society at large as ‘hopeless’ cases. I really appreciate the way this book is divided in easy-to-follow components that you can use in conjunction with one another, i.e., using activitiy #8 in Section 1, ‘Understanding Your Anger’, which is, “Being Smart About TV and Video Games” along with an activity in Section 3, ‘Dealing with People’, which is something such as, “Compromising”. I have used these exact two handout exercises during my sessions and my defiant prepubscent boys finally can learn to soften their hearts a bit and become more flexible so to negotiate and live within their family/community system more effectively. In my opinion, anything presented/written by Dr. Shapiro will be excellent and very well received by my patients. He has never disappointed and this book is one of many that actually reach the kids which allows you as the therapist/teacher/counselor to really be present and provide much needed psychoeducation to the kids and their families. Worth every penny you spend; essential to your therapeutic library if you work with kids and young adolescents.

Really great at breaking down communication
My son is 6 and has a hard time expressing his emotions when he is uncomfortable – anger, shame, disappointment. This book and the activities help him to recognize when what he is feeling, where he feels it, and how to express it in a healthy non violent manner. Consistency is key with this book. You must dedicate yourself to doing the work with your kid/s, but it is well worth it.

My nine-year-old daughter felt like it was a put-down
My daughter, who was 9 years old when I bought this, felt like it was demeaning and a put-down. She said it made her furious, and she literally tore it to shreds. She says it is a good anger management tool in that it helped with her anger when she tore it apart. She is 13 years old now, and says other methods (a character/leadership class taught at her school in particular) has been much more beneficial. I am happy to report that she is much better equipped to manage these emotions at this point in her life.
