Josephine is a kangaroo – who loves to dance. Her little brother, Joey, tells her that kangaroos don’t dance, they hop – but Josephine continues to point her toes and leap through the air. When a ballet troupe comes to town and both the lead ballerina and understudy are injured, Josephine’s talents are called upon to help save the day. Can she do it and, more importantly, does it matter that she’s a kangaroo?
Josephine Wants To Dance has been delighting children since it was first published ten years ago, and this pink and sparkly anniversary edition is the perfect way to celebrate!

Another charmer from Jackie French and Bruce Whatley.Josephine the kangaroo lives to dance. She dances with brolgas and lyre birds, she dances alone, she dances despite the naysayers who say that kangaroos don’t dance, they jump. When she finds that the ballet is coming to Shaggy Gully she wants to dance with the ballet and wear a tutu and silk ballet shoes. Her brother, Joey, scoffs and tells her to give up her dream and come back to the bush where she belongs but when the lead dancer and understudy are injured and can’t dance Josephine leaps into the breach and the director of the show lets her dance the lead role. This is a gorgeous story about following your dreams and seeing where they lead you. The illustrations are evocative and there are many touches of humour. I particularly liked the picture of the wombat in a tutu at the end of the book when Josephine has inspired everyone to dance. Just delightful.Highly recommended.

I bought this picture book because I am doing a “Writing Picture Books,” course and realised it had been about 40 years – give or take – since I’d last read a picture book. Josephine Wants to Dance is a beautiful story about following your dreams despite the opinions of others. Jackie French had written a wonderful story, and the illustrations by Bruce Whatley are just perfection. I’d thoroughly recommend buying it for a young child in your life or even buying a copy to put under the local wishing tree at your nearest RSL.

Great deal.
My daughter is in love with this book. I’m happy with the purchase, however, I don’t think this book was brand new. I’m thinking it was one that was on the shelf for a while.

Great book – My 2 year old loves it, but perfectly appropriate for older ages as well.
My daughter has chosen this book as part of her nighttime routine now for months. A positive, happy book with great visuals.
