Easy Read; Profound Wisdom
Want to be a wise person for success at work?..or for a loved one who needs advice?Keep this on your nightstand for evening reading.Keep it at your work place for a “mental health break”Read it in small sips – like fine wine – over 6-12 months.The one-star critics are unfair.One criticizes the book for being unscholarly.(It is not meant to be high scholarship!Read Alexander Pope’s essay on criticism then apologize to the author for your poor criticism scholarship.)The other critic confuses the audio version with the paperback. Another literary faux pas.This book is designed for the average English speaking reader who is interested to learn timeless lessons in dealing with the universal and inevitable vicissitudes to which Man is subjected.It is a survival manual for thinking people whowant short pithy and profound advice on adapting to the daily assaults on peace of mind.That is why the front cover reads “Adapted” and “Contemporary”Each letter addresses a common problem of Man and clearly lends the kind of advice a wise grandfather would present humbly but generously to a loved one.Each letter’s subject is clearly listed in the Table of Contents for easy reference and can be both read and understood within minutes.It is meant to elicit truth through provocative posits & personal contemplation, not pedantic nagging.It succeeds.

Great Edition
On top of being the famously aclaimed letters of Seneca, for me this edition has two special features. First, this is not just a “selection” of his writings, this is a whole volume with all of them. The second is that the printing and the quality of the paper are fantastic. So for those of us that love writing and folding pages this is an absolutely win. Compared to other editions, maybe the only pitfall of this one is that there is no introduction or more dicussion about the letters. But it’s fine. That general knowledge can be found on internet.

Hard to read as riddled with typos
I had to stop reading the book, though I am very much interested in its content. The Kindle edition at least is riddled with typos: Stray punctuation, stray words, etc. Just one example that is so glaringly obvious that it should not have escaped thorough proofreading (the last straw before writing this comment):”I can show you many objects the where the quest for acquisition has taken freedom from our hands.”Nice sentiment for sure, but “the where the” is like a needle scratching across a record. Alas, there are too many instances for me to be tolerant of them any longer. Too bad my patience lasted beyond the time span during which I could return this high school essay.

Full of Grammar Errors
You can get the idea of what Seneca is trying to say from this book but you will have to get past errors in grammar every few pages. It is a poorly edited text. Don’t buy this unless you can ignore the ever present errors.
