Description
Mandarin for Kids Set 2 is a confidence-building set of first Chinese readers that make learning Chinese achievable for kids ages 3-8. Developed with teachers, Set 2 combines picture cues, context, simple sentences, humor and repetition in just one line of text per page using the Spot Color Immersion Method®. Children can soon finish the beginner Mandarin books by themselves, an early success that motivates them and bolsters their confidence. The online audio narration allows kids to learn the proper pronunciation by a native Mandarin speaker. Set 2 features:
- 10 little Chinese books for kids, each 16 pages with 10 theme vocabulary words
- One line of text per page in pinyin with parallel Simplified Chinese characters
- English translation at the back
- Bilingual English-Chinese vocabulary chart on the inside cover
- Online audio narration by a native speaker (adults don’t need to help with pronunciation). Audio is accessed online using the web address/URL in the books (stream or download).
Set 2 has 10 hemes: Food, Verbs, Tableware, Art supplies, Feelings, Nature, Jobs, Furniture, Bedtime and a Surprise delivery. Unlike most bilingual children’s books in Chinese and English, the translation is at the back so kids stay in pinyin and Simplified Chinese but get help if needed.
Mandarin Chinese for Kids Set 2 introduces the Chinese language for kids in preschool, kindergarten and elementary and provides early exposure for toddlers and babies. Parents, teachers and homeschools use it as an engaging complement to children’s Mandarin books, flash cards and lessons.
Illustrations by American Library Association Geisel Honor winner Nancy Meyers.
Kids take their first steps to learning Mandarin Chinese as they delight in a gourmet feast, a day at the park, a mystery delivery and more adventures with their friends Claire, Teddy, Mighty Mike, Ernie and Rosie.

Excellent for non-Mandarin speakers
If you (adults and children) are interested in learning conversational Mandarin, these books are a good starting point. My 3-year old grandaughter flicks through these books with the help of the downloaded audio (clear pronounciation) and after maybe 10 repeats she knows when I’ve played the wrong audio! A ding! signals when to read the next page or turn the page. The drawings are lively and the humorous storyline keeps her interested. Each story has a theme (e.g. a picnic, putting on the proper clothes before going out to play in the snow etc) and sentences are repeated but with different objects and situations inserted. A teaching guide is included which is helpful. This series is an excellent starter for non-Mandarin speakers looking at familiarising themselves with this tonal language. Getting the tones correct is crucial if you want to say the right thing in Mandarin! I bought the two sets.

Best books for 2nd Lang learners
Absolutely love these books. My 3.5 year old doesn’t like Chinese story books but with these he’ll ask for over and over.Short, simple stories with illustration he can relate to. Simple sentences with repetition makes learning a 2nd language that much easier. Hanyu pinyin and English translation (proper translation, not rubbish literal translation that makes zero sense) for adults who aren’t that fluent or confident speaking/reading Chinese.Very happy with this purchase!

Useful teaching material for elementary Chinese
I am interested in using the book to teach elementary Chinese. It looks good for the grade level of my students.
