There is no such thing as a monster, and certainly no such thing as a monster under the bed. That’s what Howard’s mother tells him. There is no such thing as a boy, and certainly no such thing as a boy on top of a bed. That’s what Monster’s mother tells him. But no matter what their mothers say, Howard and Monster remain afraid of the dark . . . until one spooky night when both face their deepest fears. Jackie French Koller and Betsy Lewin have created a “monster-under-the-bed” story that offers the perfect cure for fear of the dark–laughter!

Hidden treasure
My kids loved this book when they were little and I bought this one to read to my future grandchildren. Such a cute and relatable story with a twist at the end that will leave the child giggling.

A little laughter goes a long way to scare off the monsters in the dark!
This has been a favorite book in our family for years. Even now, when my teenage boys saw me getting ready to wrap this on up, they panicked! “You’re not giving that away, are you Mom?” I had to reassure them that this was a new copy, not the one we had all shared. In fact, I’d purchased three so that I can eventually provide each of them with one of their own.So why is this such a favorite? It turns the whole idea of the monster under the bed on its head! It eases those worries with great humor and a bit of fun at Moms’ expense. And it teaches that you can’t judge a person by what you’ve heard about them – you’ve got to find out for yourself – something that I liked a whole lot, but I don’t think my sons ever noticed it (which is even better).

Who’s Afraid of Whom?
Do you remember the ‘monster under the bed’ from your childhood? Was the monster real? Or was it simply an overactive imagination come to life? Author Jackie French Koller looks at things from a different perspective. What if the little monster actually slept under the bed but was frightened of the boy who slept above him? Don’t boys eat little monsters? Both human mother and monster mom calm their respective children in this short and charming tale, proving that the most unlikely creatures can become friends.Another award-winning illustrated story by Jackie French Koller. Your little ones will love this story!

Great ending
I love this book. One of my favorite things about this book is the ending. The author does not ruin it by telling everything. My students are always excited because they know what is going to happen next. The author also uses some nonsense words when the monster is talking and it is great to talk about how we use context cues to learn new vocabulary.

Great Children’s Book-No Such Thing
This is a great children’s book that I just purchased for my grandchildren, ages 1 – 5. They love the story, as I expected they would. I was an elementary school children’s librarian from 2000 to 2007, when I retired. Kindergarten, First, and Second graders loved this story as well. I think all kids worry about noises in their closet or under the bed. This is a cute spoof on that theme and does not scare the kids at all. It seems comforting to them that a monster could be afraid of children! Great artwork, too. I would heartily recommend this title to anyone looking for a good book for kids.

Who Says There Is No Such Thing?
Mother tells boy: “There is no such thing as monsters!” Monster mother tells son: “There are no such things as boys!” Then boy meets monster.I read this book to kindergarten students around Halloween. One year my students voted it their favorite story. We sent the author an e-mail and she replied she was happy to know the students liked her book.
